Current Beach Conditions
The current beach condition at the local swimming areas (Sokodo, Yaene, Yakengahama, Yokoma, and Occhogahama) are updated daily by the Hachijo Tourist Information Center via their official twitter account. Refer to the English tweets in the linked feed on the side.
For those unaware of the flag meanings:

No flag - swimming is allowed

Yellow flag - caution is required when swimming

Red flag - swimming is prohibited
Remember that the beach conditions can change quickly, so make sure to confirm the status at the beach.
The Occhogahama public pool is closed this year due to COVID19.
Swimming at the Sokodo beach
Sea bathing advisories

The swimming area is marked by the buoys (refer to the picture). The area beyond is dangerous therefore avoid swimming outside the safe zone.¹

In some places strong rip currents form pulling away from the shore. Be extra careful.

Refrain from fishing in the swimming area as it is dangerous to the swimmers.

If you are feeling unwell or are intoxicated, do not go swimming to avoid accidents.

Refrain from surfing, windsurfing, using motorboats and watercrafts etc. in the swimming area.

Be mindful of others. Do not litter, cause trouble, etc.

Follow the lifeguard's instructions at all times.

COVID19 measures

Confirm your wellbeing (body temperature, whether or not you have shortness of breath, are tired, etc.) before going to the beach.

Do not push yourself by going to the beach when feeling unwell.

Practise good cough and sneeze etiquette.

Protect yourself by avoiding the 3 C's (Closed spaces, Crowded places, Close-contact settings) when using the changing rooms and other facilities.

Wear a mask as much as possible.
